Free Hugs – or how to make a person smile :)

On a beautiful day of May (20th of May) a wonderful thing was set up by a group of volunteers. The idea - giving free hugs to anybody who was willing to receive them in the center of Sibiu. AIESEC Sibiu was also there, for the first time, together with other enthusiastic students. Although this time we weren’t too many from AIESEC, we really enjoyed going to people in the street, asking them politely if they are willing to receive a hug, that had the purpose to brighten their day. Many of the people who received a hug were a bit surprised by our intention, but the majority received them with a smile on their face. Funny thing – older people looked the happiest to receive a hug. I was really moved because of this happening: I saw an old lady on the street, walking aside and looking a bit  sad, a bit lost in her thoughts. This is when I walked up to her and asked her if she would like me to hug her. And then she smiled at me, accepting my hug and for a moment I believe she forgot about her worries and thanked me for brighting her day.

This Free Hugs Campaign was actually set up by Lume Buna (http://www.lumebuna.ro) and it took place in over 60 cities in Romania for this second edition (the first edition was in December 2008). The concept of Free Hugs belongs to a guy named Juan Mann (http://www.freehugscampaign.org) from Australia who thought that many of us sometimes need a simple hug from somebody to brighten up our day. This is true also because the world we live in is very serious and often cold and people nowadays sometimes need affection more than ever.

This is what happened that day in pictures:

Don’t forget that … sometimes, a hug is all we need. :o)

LPM - Saw through a newie’s eyes

Asadar, LPM…

Starting off in middle management

My first IS meeting

My first IS meeting

One thing I like most about AIESEC is the fact that it is flexible. Flexible when it comes to people, projects or even personal development. After you become an AIESEC member, you have opportunities at your feet. You may choose to be an OC (Organizational Committee) /OCP (Organizational Committee President) in a project or even try to get into the Executive Board (EB) of AIESEC Sibiu. But some people find their place in positions like Information Systems Manager, Alumni Responsible or PR (Public Relations) Responsible. These 3 positions represent for AIESEC Sibiu the middle management.
I choose to be an IS Manager after spending more than a year in IS department of AIESEC Sibiu. Middle management has an important role too in the organization, they coordinate a group of people and most important they are specialist in that domain. The relationship between middle management and the EB must be open so that every Vice President can always have a good picture of their department status.
For me being an IS Manager means to taste leadership. I’ve read so much about leadership, presented leadership and talked about leadership, but now its the time to experience leadership.
I’m just 2 weeks old as an IS Manager and I can say I like it. Gathering people in one place at the same time can be alone a challenge and I feel that every time I meet my team, my experience gets a plus.
Expectations are the only fear I have during my term and I’m sure I will prove myself at least as good as the last IS Manager.

National Congress 2009 - the “hippie shake” of AIESEC Romania’s Local committees

New people, new ways of dealing with things, a new method of managing our resources, new Executive Board (EB) and Member Committee (MC) but nothing newer than the relation and the connections between the AIESEC Romania’s Local Committees (LC). At the 2009’s National Congress, all the participants made a clear statement: communication and collaboration will be the “Key Performance Indicators” and the “Critical Success Factors” of our future development as Local Committees in AIESEC in Romania.
More to that, the Awards Gala brought us even closer to a better collaboration, rewarding the best realizations of the Local Committees and taking the first step towards a brighter future in AIESEC in Romania and AIESEC in all the 13 LC’s.
All in all, this 2009 NC brought what was needed for us to start a new stage in our collaboration, made the things clearer and gave a boom for us to develop a lot faster in order for the members to have the best experience AIESEC can provide.

TTI 14-15 martie Cluj Napoca

21st - 22nd February – 2 days of celebration

Once upon a time … or the success story of AIESEC Sibiu.
Tort AIESEC Sibiu
It all began 10 years ago … on the 22nd February 1999 a handful of young students from Economics and Engineering established AIESEC Sibiu, which today gathers 30 active members.

Because it has been a decade since the founding of AIESEC Sibiu, we decided to celebrate this special occasion together with the AIESEC Sibiu alumni.

There were 2 days of snow, laughter and happiness once the old members met up with the new ones, but also with those who found their way outside the country thanks to AIESEC Sibiu.

We intend to celebrate the whole year the 10th birthday of AIESEC Sibiu also with official events, not only with parties.

How was the party?

Well, just take a look:

If we would take a peek back, there were 10 years of success, fulfillments, projects, conferences and members which had unique experiences. They all have chosen the path of the AIESEC experience: from newbie-members to leaders (on a national level), no matter the country or interns in different countries.

We are proud of those people who made AIESEC Sibiu what it is today.

Also, let’s not forget our active members which make our committee be one with success, leadership and opportunities for personal growth.

… happy birthday AIESEC Sibiu!

IS Team in action

Last Thursday the Information System Team meet up at the AIESEC Sibiu headquarters to do some spring cleaning in our dear computers. Let the pictures speak!
